More than 200 people gathered to celebrate a fantastic day for the Tee Up for Change golf tournament on September 16, when an unsuspecting (and very deserving) Elliott Bourgeois was surprised with a Community Builder Award from United Way East Ontario.
This heartfelt moment brightened an already meaningful day, and the celebration grew when news of the award was shared. Elliott has a deep connection to golf and giving—he founded his own tournament, which has raised nearly $100,000 and supported more than 26 local charities to date.
Visibly humbled and grateful, Elliott shared brief remarks, calling out several people in the room who have supported his many charitable endeavours.
“Thank you very much for this award — I’m very humbled,” said Elliot. “This is the place we work and live, and a stronger community lifts us all.” His award is a tribute to his tireless volunteerism and transformative impact across Ottawa, and the enthusiastic applause reflected the admiration and appreciation felt by all.

Elliott Bourgeois has made a big impact on the Ottawa community through his continuous volunteerism, innovative fundraising efforts, and philanthropy.
With warmth and drive, Elliott brings people together through creativity, collaboration, and care. He volunteers across a wide range of causes and is deeply committed to uplifting his community. Whether connecting with patients at Saint‑Vincent Hospital (Bruyère) or empowering youth through BGC Ottawa, Elliott has always focused on people‑first service. Today, he continues this work through leadership roles in multiple organizations and community initiatives.
Elliott has channeled his passion for giving into meaningful action across the city. He serves on the boards of the Ottawa Dragon Boat Festival, the Ottawa Dragon Boat Foundation, and the Bruyère Foundation. His strategic leadership has supported initiatives like Helping with Furniture, BGC Ottawa, and the Community Laundry Co‑op. Even through challenges like COVID‑19 and climate‑related disruptions, Elliott has remained a steady force, ensuring funds reach those who need them most.
His impact goes even further. As a founding member of the Ottawa Food Bank’s Investment Advisory Committee, Elliott helped build its foundational investment framework, strengthening the organization’s long-term financial stability by millions. He also plays a key role on the Ottawa Cancer Foundation’s Strategic Leadership Council, raising more than $100,000 to support people navigating cancer. Elliott’s care is personal: he regularly connects friends and colleagues facing illness with vital services and support.
Elliott founded the Ottawa Corporate Cup, a charity golf tournament that has raised nearly $100,000 for more than 26 local organizations. He designed the event not just as a fundraiser, but as a platform, inviting charity representatives to share their missions, inspire participants, and build lasting relationships. Elliott’s efforts have mobilized local businesses, inspired first-time volunteers, and fostered a culture of shared responsibility across Ottawa’s professional community.
His passion also shines through events like The Hip Heals, a benefit concert in memory of Gord Downie that raised $100,000 while showcasing local artists, uplifting cancer survivors, and mentoring new leaders like Mariam Sarr, who found her voice through Elliott’s encouragement.
Elliott has also quietly made significant contributions in everyday spaces, from launching a composting program at his workplace through the Welch Green Team to increasing visibility and participation in the Ride for ALS.
The causes he supports reflect his deep care for equity and inclusion, with funding directed toward organizations serving 2SLGBTQIA+ communities, racialized youth, women’s shelters, and people with disabilities.
Elliott Bourgeois is a true community builder; generous with his time, strategic in his thinking, and unwavering in his dedication to those around him. His influence ripples far beyond any one initiative, creating networks of kindness, opportunity, and growth. We’re grateful for everything he continues to do in support of Ottawa and thank him for being a powerful force for good in our city.
