On a snowy Sunday morning at the start of Jubilee Apostolic Church’s service, we had the pleasure of surprising an unsuspecting attendee with a Community Builder Award.

In front of more than 50 attendees, and with the help of our Volunteer CBA Recognition Team Member, Sarah Onyango, we presented Pastor Carmen Hamilton with a Community Builder Award — honouring her unwavering dedication to uplifting individuals and strengthening the fabric of our community.

The room erupted in cheers and a standing ovation, celebrating Pastor Hamilton’s award and commitment to her community.

Pastor Carmen Hamilton

For more than 16 years, Pastor Carmen Hamilton has been tireless volunteer and driving force for compassion and change in Ottawa’s communities. Guided by her faith and a deep commitment to equity, she has dedicated her life to helping others through Jubilee Apostolic United Pentecostal Church, and far beyond its walls.

Pastor Hamilton’s leadership shines through action: organizing benefit concerts and children’s camps, mentoring at-risk youth, and creating welcoming spaces for newcomers with food, clothing, and job resources. Through this work, she has built a foundation of hope and belonging for many, helping families navigate new environments and access opportunities.

In partnership with local organizations, she champions inclusive engagement and social justice, ensuring vulnerable voices are heard and supported. Her efforts have transformed neighbourhoods like Heatherington and Ottawa South, building connections and joy where they are needed most.

Pastor Hamilton’s dual calling—as an ordained pastor and certified nursing aide—reflects her holistic approach to care, blending spiritual guidance with practical help. She is especially committed to supporting marginalized groups, including immigrants, BIPOC individuals, and those facing economic hardship, always ensuring her outreach is inclusive and respectful.

Pastor Hamilton’s story is one of empathy in motion. Her unwavering dedication uplifts individuals and strengthens the fabric of our community. United Way East Ontario is proud to recognize her profound impact and honour her as a Community Builder—a leader whose impact will resonate for generations.
